Artisanal Mining  (AM) in Ethiopia has been the basic mineral and rocks production and processing sectors through out the older civilianization of the country from pre Axumite kingdom to present  time for about 4800 years (ancient Egypt hieroglyphic records). Historically, unique heritage of obelisk, rock hewing, castles, churches and Mosque and others of the country believed to be crafted and produced by thousand skilled and unskilled Artisanal miners (local peoples).  Gold and other mineral product were also mined by Artisanal Miners continued from Pre-Aksumite to modern time, for many thousand years. The Ministry of Mine and Energy (MoME) currently initiated in formulating Artisanal Mining (AM) unit within the Mineral operation Department (MOD) in 2005-2008 after baseline studies by consultant.  In 2008/2009 the MoME also embarked a civil  service reform program and re-designed the unit into core process,” name as Artisanal Mining and Transaction coordinates Core Process (AMTCCP)”.  Vision and mission core   

This core process is one of the newly designed core process organized under the MoME) following the new BPR studies during 2007/2008. The core process was designed to support the AM sub sector of Ethiopia by growing the utilization of the natural resource of the sector in line with the vision of the country,  the Ministry of Mines and Energy”.  It also supports the Artisanal miners and seller to participate in legal mining and transaction of precious minerals in order the AM sub-sector contribute in the national economy of the country.  More on the core process

Presently, the core process to support the AM-sub sector by designing three years capital project with ultimate goal of curving the growing AM problems such as social, economical, technical, financial, environmental, health care, safety and infrastructural through consultation and direct dialogue with multi-stakeholder approaches. Disseminating the overall activity of the newly designed core process (AMTCCP) through the modern state-of-art of IT technology (web based), play a crucial role in promoting the AM sector and increased the foreign income of the country.
